2016 BMW M8
The BMW M8 is the new name for the planned BMW M1 supercar successor that has been in the pipeline for awhile now. The car is expected to take many of its cues from the BMW M1 homage concept (above) and to be largely based on the platform of the BMW i8, a hybrid supercar with a three cylinder engine and electric motor releasing for the 2014 model year. Expect the M8 to release for the 2016 model year as a birthday present for the automakers 100th year. As BMW’s first supercar in many years, it’ll come up against for established competition from the Porsche 911 GT3, the Aston Martin Vantage V12, and, surprisingly, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
The car is expected to be modeled after the BMW M1 homage concept while being based on the platform of the i8 so expect a blend of the two.
